Today in Berlin, Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed President Volodymyr Zelensky with military honors and a clear message: Germany stands firmly by Ukraine’s side—for peace, for freedom, and for the future of Europe.
Merz announced Germany will support Ukraine in developing its own long-range missile systems—with no range restrictions. “Ukraine will be able to fully defend itself, including against military targets outside its territory,” he said.
In response to recent Russian attacks, Merz pledged to increase pressure on Moscow “to weaken its war machine… and to pave the way for negotiations.” Beyond the battlefield, the visit reaffirmed a long-term partnership. German-Ukrainian government consultations will resume in late 2025 for the first time in years.
“This is about our shared freedom—and lasting peace for Ukraine and Europe,” Merz emphasized.
